CORRKJOINT® N.E.C Resin Bonded (Type II) Cork Fillerboard can be used in a wide range of construction projects where there is a need for expansion joints or construction joints. Here are some common areas of application for cork fillerboards.

• Wet areas and water treatment plants:  CORKJOINT® N.E.C Resin Bonded (Type II) Cork Fillerboard is highly resistant to moisture and is not affected by water or chemicals commonly used in these environments. Water treatment plants are highly corrosive environments where various chemicals, including acids and alkalis, are used to treat water. Being  highly resistant to these chemicals they will not break down or degrade over time, making them an ideal choice for use in water treatment plants.

CORKJOINT® N.E.C Cork Fillerboard is supplied to site packaged and ready for use and is simply glued to the existing concrete and the concrete poured against it. A Tear Off Cap can be then removed for any sealant required over the joint.

Where shown in the Brochure drawings, the expansion joint fillerboard shall be CORKJOINT® N.E.C Resin Bonded (Type II) Cork Fillerboard is manufactured to ASTM D1752 Type II from high grade granulated cork and resin binders, with a minimum density of 120-180kg/m³. The application / installation of the product must be in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

WEAR AND TEAR – CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III is a semi ridged material manufactured to withstand high traffic movements but still flexible to be able to flex as required in the joint.

NO SYNTHETIC CAPPING/JOINT SEALANT – CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III does not require any sealant to prevent the ingress of foreign materials as it will expand to seal the joint when installed in accordance with the ASTM D1752 Type III specification. If specified by the Design Engineer, a Tear Off Cap can be supplied which is being removed after the concrete pour is complete as this can vary in depth as required.

WATERING – As a natural product, CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III needs to be watered so as to activate the expansion process and achieve a joint seal and so the filament tape must be removed, taking away any concrete slurry exposing the cork and then watering it on a regular basis in accordance with the ASTM D1752 specification.

THICKNESS – CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III is available in standard thicknesses of 10, 12, 15, 20 and 25mm and custom thicknesses are also available upon request.

TESTING AND COMPLIENCE
CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III is put through many rigorous tests. It is:
– Boiled in hydrochloric acid for 1 hour
– Boiled in water for 1 hour
– Compressed to 50% at a load of 50psi to 1500psi and then recovers to 90% after 10 minutes.
– It then has to meet a density of 354kg / m³

CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III should be stored in a dry place and left in its packaging until you want to use it. We package CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III to your immediate requirements so it can be carried directly to the site. If you have any left over, it should be sealed again and stored in a dry place for further use.

Where shown in the Brochure drawings, the expansion joint fillerboard shall be CORKJOINT® Self Expanding Cork Fillerboard Complying too ASTM D1752 Type III manufactured to ASTM D1752 Type III from high grade granulated cork and resin binders, with a minimum density of 250-370kg/m³ and have the ability to expand up to 25%. Eze-Flex is available in roll form of 75, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250 & 300mm high and special custom sizes are also available. Roll length are in 25 metres and available in thicknesses of 10, 12, 15, 20 & 25mm. The 10mm thickness product comes with a 10mm zipped cut on top for easy removability for future joint sealant placement. Eze-Flex also available in sheet sizes 2m x 1m. Eze-Flex rolls are also available with a self-adhesive back on one side. Eze-Flex stock standard density is 25kg/m³.

Jointflex® Backer Rod are available in roll lengths for round shapes and available in lengths of 1 metre, 1.5
metre and 2 metre for square sections. Standard diameter sizes are 6mm up to 80mm. Section sizes are as follows: 10mm x 10mm, 15mm x 15mm, 20mm x 20mm and 25mm x 25mm. Custom diameter and section sizes can be easily manufactured to suit.

Choose a diameter or square section which is approximately 20% to 25% bigger than the actual joint size so it can be compressed to fit inside the joint, creating a tight and firm fit. Apply the backer rod to your specified depth for the sealant application.

A wide range of standardised prefabricated intersection pieces are available allowing easy site welding of butt joints to Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop junction pieces. Customised pieces can be made to suit. In such cases, drawings must be provided giving exact dimensions and jointing details.

The width of waterstop depends upon the thickness of the concrete and positioning of the reinforcement. The thickness of the concrete should be greater than or equal to the width of the waterstop profile. Refer to your engineer for further clarification and approval.

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL STYLE SURE-STOP® PVC WATERSTOPS

1. Prior to placement, all Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop joins and intersections must be welded together on site using our recommended welding and joining procedure (refer to our “CORKJOINT® Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop Site Joining Guidelines” brochure).
2. Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop should be positioned inside the joint so that one half of the waterstop width is embedded into each concrete pour. (Refer FIG. 1).
3. INTERNAL Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstops must be securely tied into position through the pre-punched brass eyelets located on the external outer flanges of the waterstop. These are positioned every 300mm apart along both outer edges of the waterstop, giving a very secure fixing position. In vertical joint applications, the placement of form work is then positioned below and on top of the waterstop by butting up to it from both sides, achieving a split formwork outcome, which also helps secure/hold the waterstop into position. (Refer FIG. 2 ) Usually in horizontal joint applications no formwork is required.
4. EXTERNAL Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop are secured into position by concrete nails that are hammered through the specially designed outer flange areas of the waterstop, into the lean concrete base (blinding layer) for slab on ground applications or by nails or screws into the formwork, for wall applications. In vertical joint applications the placement of formwork is then positioned on top of the waterstop by butting up to it. This also helps secure/hold the waterstop into position. (Refer FIG. 3)
5. To achieve the ultimate installation procedure, carefully place the concrete so as not to displace Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop from its position. Thoroughly vibrate concrete around the waterstop to avoid air entrapment and to provide a positive contact between the waterstop and the concrete. Particular care should be taken when installing internal waterstops for slab on ground applications to make sure concrete is fully vibrated and compacted around and underneath the waterstop and all its ribs. (Refer FIG. 4).
6. Please also refer to our “CORKJOINT® Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop Site Joining Guidelines” for further information on Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop welding / joining procedures and preparation and installation procedures.

Where shown on the drawings waterstops shall be Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop (state profile number required) as supplied by CORKJOINT®. Provide factory made waterstop fabrications for all changes of direction, intersections and transitions, leaving only straight butt joined splices for on-site fabrication.

 Joining of PVC Waterstops is performed by heat welding which results in the discharge of hydrogen chloride mist and vapour. The Welding Iron comes with a temperature control adjustor and a non-stick teflon coating to help prevent the molten PVC from burning and sticking to the iron during undertaking of the joining / welding procedure.

CORKJOINT® recommends the use of its specialised PVC waterstop Welding Equipment for on-site joining/welding of their Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstops, which consists of Teflon coated (non-stick), thermostatically heat-controlled Welding Irons and special Welding Jigs (each type of CORKJOINT® Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop requires its own welding jig to suit the particular profile shape). On-site joining/welding is a simple exercise using CORKJOINT®’s specialised and professional Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop Welding Equipment. The ends of the waterstop are cut square and placed into the adjustable Welding Jig, then push the ends of the waterstop against the Welding Iron and once sufficient melt on each end of the PVC waterstop has been achieved, remove the Welding Iron from the Welding Jig, and while the PVC waterstop is still clamped inside the Welding Jig, immediately bring the two melted ends together, until the molten PVC has fused together. When ordering CORKJOINT®’s Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop Welding Equipment, please advise profile type of the waterstop required to be joined/welded. Refer to CORKJOINT® for their full site joining/welding guidelines.

Note: Corkjoint®’s Sure-Stop® PVC Waterstop Welding Iron L is to be used for Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop Profile types.

1. Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop should only be installed into an expansion or isolation joint based upon the following:

• with a maximum joint width of 40mm for the LX-RGX 120 profile and the LX-TX 120 profile.
• with a maximum joint movement of 50mm (longitudinally and vertically) for the LX-RGX 120 profile and the LX-TX 120 profile

Note: If a wider joint or wider range of movement is required, please consult CORKJOINT.

2. Factory produced intersection pieces must be used for internal and external corner locations, and also for areas where integration of traditional waterstop systems (external or internal profile types) are to be used in construction joints or expansion joints, or if hydrophilic (swellable) waterstops are to be used in construction joints, that run perpendicular into the joint of where the Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop is placed. Refer to Corkjoint for further information on this.

1. Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop must be installed by skilled installers and must be in accordance with CORKJOINT®‘s recommended installation procedures (refer to our “Installation Method Guideline”) or to the design engineer’s installation specification requirements.

2. The concrete should be fully vibrated around the Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop to help achieve  ultimate sealing capabilities and full integration of the waterstop into the concrete of the structure.

3. Joining of Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop should be performed by heat welding with special welding equipment provided by CORKJOINT® (refer to our job site joining/welding method guideline).

4. Factory produced intersection pieces must be used for internal and external corner locations, and also for areas where integration of traditional waterstop systems (external or internal profile types) are to be  +used in construction joints or expansion joints, or if hydrophilic (swellable) waterstops are to be used in construction joints, that run perpendicular into the joint of where the Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop is placed. Refer to CORKJOINT® for further information on this.

Note:  The product’s design and performance, its intended use, installation and final confirmation and approval for use, must be provided by the project’s Design Engineer and Project Manager.

Waterstop shall be Sure-Stop® LX PVC Waterstop (state profile type) as supplied by CORKJOINT® with dimensions, shape and material properties as illustrated/mentioned in their product brochure. All installation and joining procedures must be according to CORKJOINT®’s recommendations and requirements, and also approved by the project’s Design Engineer.

• TX-100 PVC Waterstop should only be installed into an expansion/ isolation joint with a maximum width of 30mm and with a maximum movement (longitudinally and vertically) of 50mm. If a wider joint or wider range of movement is required, please consult CORKJOINT®.
• TX-150 PVC Waterstop should only be installed into an expansion/ isolation joint with a maximum width of 50mm and with a maximum movement (longitudinally and vertically) of 50mm. If a wider joint or wider range of movement is required, please consult CORKJOINT®.
• TX PVC Waterstop must be installed by skilled installers and must be in accordance with CORKJOINT®’s recommended installation procedures (refer to our “Installation Method Guideline”) or your engineers design.

3. The concrete should be fully vibrated around the  SURE-STOP® TX PVC Waterstop to help achieve ultimate sealing capabilities and full integration of the waterstop into the structure.

4. Joining of SURE-STOP® TX PVC Waterstop should be performed by heat welding with special equipment provided by CORKJOINT® (refer to our job site joining/welding method guideline).

5. Factory fabricated intersections must be used to connect traditional types of PVC waterstop to SURE-STOP® TX PVC Waterstop. Special intersections will be required to join the waterstops that are being used in the construction or expansion joints that run perpendicular into the construction, expansion/isolation joint where the TX PVC Waterstop is to be placed. Contact CORKJOINT® for further details.

6. All joints of the concrete structure that run perpendicular into the construction or expansion/ isolation joint where the SURE-STOP® TX PVC Waterstop is to be used, must have waterstops in them. If they are construction joints, then traditional construction joint PVC waterstops or a Hydrophilic Waterstop can be used (refer to our recommended installation procedures). If traditional PVC waterstops are to be used, then refer to item 5 above, or your design engineer’s recommendations.

7. Sure-Stop® TX PVC Waterstop is supplied in a 3.0 metre length and included are the ancillary accessories for installation. The following accessories are required per 3.0 metre length:-

● Stainless Steel Battens : 2 lengths x 3.0metre (long) x 20mm (wide) x 3.0mm (thick)
● Stainless Steel Fasteners (anchors) : 40 pieces x 6.0mm (diameter) x 55mm (long)
● CJ Epoxy Adhesive 5kg Kit : 1 x application at 100mm (wide) x 3.0mm (thick) = 10 mt(length)
                                                      2 x application at 100mm (wide) x 3.0mm (thick) = 5 mt(length)

Note: Two applications of adhesive are required, one on to the concrete substrate and one onto the back of the TX waterstop.

2. The concrete must be fully vibrated around the XB PVC Waterstop to help achieve ultimate sealing capabilities and full integration of the waterstop into the structure.
3. Joining of XB PVC Waterstop must be performed by heat welding with special equipment provided by the supplier. (refer to our “on site joining guidelines”).
4. Factory fabricated intersections must be used to connect traditional types of PVC waterstops to XB PVC Waterstop.
5. Special intersections will be required to join the waterstops that are being used in the construction or expansion joints that run perpendicular to the expansion / isolation joint where the XB PVC Waterstop is to be placed. Contact us for further details or refer to your designer engineer’s recommendations.
6. All the joints of the concrete structure that run perpendicular into the expansion / isolation joint where the XB PVC Waterstop is being used must have waterstops in them. If they are construction joints, then traditional PVC watestops or our Superswell® 47B hydrophilic waterstop can be used (refer to our recommended installation procedures). If traditional PVC Waterstops are to be used, then refer to No. 4 above or refer to your designer engineer’s recommendations.

1. XB-75 PVC Waterstop should only be installed into an expansion/isolation joint with a width of
10mm-25mm.

2. XB-100 PVC Waterstop should only be installed into an expansion/isolation joint with a width of
30mm-50mm.

3. Each leg length section of the SURE-STOP® XB PVC Waterstop that is to be embedded into the concrete, must
penetrate by a minimum of 25 mm into each side of the joint. This means that the reinforcement cover must be at a minimum of 30 mm to allow for the waterstop leg to fit into the concrete, or refer to your designer engineer’s recommendations.

Note : Proposal, specification, design and end use of this product must be fully endorsed and approved by the Design Engineer.
